Roland Introduces
8-Col Hi-Fi JET PRO
Industries First Variable – Droplet
Technology
SEYBOLD, San Francisco, CA –
August 29, 2000 – Roland DGA
Corporation introduced the newest
model of the award-wining Hi-Fi Jet at
seybold San Francisco, August 29-31.
The Hi-Fi JET PRO
(Fj-400 and FJ-500) offers the
industry’s first variable-droplet
wide-format device with three times
the speed of the original Hi-Fi
JET. The new FJ-400/500 prints
true 1440 x 1440 dpi resolution in
eight colors instead of six and can be
configured in four or eight colors,
including CMYK plus OG and LcLm.
Printing with two sets of CMYK
produces the highest throughput.
Rick Scrimger, Senior Product Manager
said that the FJ-400/500 is the worlds
first wide format printer to deliver
variable droplet technology. “The
previous Hi-Fi JET has proven to be a
favorite with photographers and fine
artist,” Scrimger said. “Now, with
Roland’s unique variable droplet
technology plus the Hi-Fi JET PROs
greatly enhanced speed, we believe it
will be equally as popular among print
for pay shops needing mural sizes,
multiple images and reliable,
unattended, high resolution
output.”
Scrimger said that the combination of
variable droplets and eight colors is
expected to further Roland’s
popularity in markets demanding
optimum quality with consistent,
repeatable results, archivability and
unmatched reliability. “Our new Hi-Fi
JET PRO will automatically adjust the
droplet size that the dots are larger
in solid areas and smaller in pastel,
gradient and lighter areas. This
enhances the image quality of an
already very fine resolution for
smoother gradations, more detail,
superior dot placement and improved
color accuracy,” Scrimger said.
“Our ability to vary droplets means
we can address more colors as well a
subtle gradations between colors.
Eight-color capability allows us to
run CMYK with light cyan and light
magenta for high fidelity plus orange
and green for greatly enhanced color
gamut. Or shops can choose to run two
sets of CMYK for three times the
output speed of previous Hi-Fi JET
models.”
Additional improvements to the Hi-Fi
JET PRO include the latest version of Roland
ColorChoice
(RCC) software RIP. RCC is the first
RIP, which is Adobe
Postscript
3 compatible and provides full 8-color
printing with automatic variable
droplet control. In addition, RCC
enables user to RIP and print at the
same time which when combined with the
FJ-400/500’s faster printing speeds
result in much faster production
times.
“The newest member of the Hi-Fi JET
family will offer Ethernet and
high-speed ECP parallel
connectivity,” Scrimger concluded.
“Mac
and windows users are now able to be
connected with a direct cable or
across a network.”
According to Scrimger, the 52” inch
model will begin shipping immediately
and the 42” model is sold out
through November. Pricing will be
above current Hi-Fi JET models, which
will continue Roland color product
lineup. “PANTONE
Hexachrome
Certification of the FJ-400/500 is
ongoing,” he said. Introduced in
August1998, the original Hi-Fi JET was
the worlds first wide-format printer
with true 1440 dpi resolution and is
still the only wide format, print-only
inkjet machine capable of stimulating
over 97% of the solid PMS Colors
(PANTONE Matching System Colors) using
PANTONE
Hexachrome
licensed technology.
One of the major factors in the Hi-Fi
JET product family’s success,
according to Scrimger, has been Roland
pigment inks which offer the
advantages of vivid colors and
exceptional UV stability. Independent
testing on selected media indicates an
expected indoor print permanence of
over 120 years. Dye inks are also
available.

and can be reached at (949) 727-2100.
